Avatar - Official Trailer

Just over 10 years since the release of Avatar, director James Cameron has finally released a look at the world of Pandora that’ll be seen in his many sequels.

In November 2019, the film’s official Twitter page unveiled a craft that will be seen in the new film, but these new photos – concept art showing off the new worlds and creatures Cameron has dreamt up – provide the first true glimpse at what to expect.

Social media reactions to the images have been mixed, with some in disbelief that the sequels are actually happening and others expressing genuine excitement about revisiting Pandora.

Others quipped that Cameron has been spending a decade working on something that they believe looks like a video game.

Cameron, who is planning on releasing four Avatar sequels in total, recently expressed his worry that the films will flop at the box office.

The director, who has been hard at work on the follow-up to his 2009 blockbuster for several years now, revealed he was relieved to see Avengers: Endgame make so much money as it’s “demonstrable proof that people will still go to movie theatres”.

Last year, Endgame surpassed Avatar to become the highest-grossing film of all time.

The director previously revealed why it has taken him so long to begin shooting the sequels, blaming underwater motion-capture technology – something he claims has “never been done before”.

The Avatar sequels wil reunite Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana and Sigourney Weaver, alongside new cast members Kate Winslet, Vin Diesel, Jermaine Clement, Michelle Yeoh and Edie Falco.

Avatar 2 is scheduled for release in cinemas on 17 December, 2021.
