Edgar Wright has confirmed that a script for a Baby Driver sequel exists.

“A first draft of Baby Driver 2 exists,” the director told Empire, adding that the second instalment introduces a swathe of new characters following the first’s high bodycount.

Wright – whose filmography includes Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead and Scott Pilgrim vs The World – revealed that his next project will not be a Baby Driver follow-up, but a psychological thriller set on London.

Citing Don’t Look Now and Roman Polanski’s Repulsion as influences, Wright said: “I realised I had never made a film about central London – specifically Soho, somewhere I’ve spent a huge amount of time in the last 25 years.

“With Hot Fuzz and Shaun Of The Dead you make movies about places you’ve lived in. This movie is about the London I’ve existed in.”

The script for the unnamed project has been written by Wright and Penny Dreadfull staff writer Krysty Wilson-Cairns.

Baby Driver, which was released in 2017 to critical acclaim, starred Ansel Elgort as getaway driver Baby and Lily James as his love interest Debora.
