Back To The Future: Michael J. Fox tries on the first ever Nike Mags
We never thought we would see the day but the self-tying Nike Mags featured in Back To The Future II finally exist.
Great Scott! It’s been 26 years in the making but it’s happened. Marty McFly finally has his own pair of self-tying trainers.
Michael J. Fox, who played the iconic character, was gifted the first pair of self-tying Nike Mag trainers on Wednesday to mark the long-anticipated ‘Back to the Future Day’.
In 1989’s Back to the Future II, Marty travels to 21 October 2015 and puts on a pair of Nike trainers that automatically tighten using ‘Power Laces’.
Nike designer Tinker Hatfield sent a letter to Mr Fox explaining the company wanted him to be the ‘first to receive a living pair’ of trainers.
The video above shows Mr Fox’s delight at the mechanism which allows the trainers to be automatically tied.
The pressure of your foot activates a set of motors that apply tension to the laces which tighten the trainer. A touch switch can be used to loosen the laces.
On Wednesday evening, the actor appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live wearing the trainers.
It is expected the Nike Mags with Power Laces will be available to purchase through auction later this year, with all proceeds going to the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
