Back to the Future cast reenact iconic scenes during lockdown reunion

They also discuss the possibility of another Back to the Future sequel

Back to the Future cast members have staged a virtual reunion on Zoom to share their memories of the classic science fiction film for coronavirus relief funds.

Ahead of the film’s upcoming 35th anniversary, stars including Christopher Lloyd (Doc Brown), Michael J Fox (Marty McFly) and Lea Thompson (Lorraine Baines-McFly) joined Frozen actor Josh Gad for his YouTube series Reunited Apart.

They were also joined by director Robert Zemeckis and co-writer Bob Gale.

Cast members reenacted a number of iconic scenes from the film, including the moment when Doc Brown and Marty McFly realise McFly’s mum Lorraine is romantically interested in him.

“This is more serious than I thought!” Christopher Lloyd begins, reenacting his role as Doc. “Apparently your mother is infatuated with you, instead of your father!”

“Wait a minute doc, are you trying to tell me my mom has the hots for me?” Fox said.

“Precisely!” Lloyd says.

“Whoa, this is heavy,” Fox says.

“There's that word again!” Christopher says. '“Heavy.” Why are things so heavy in the future? Is there some problem with the earth's gravitational pull or something?”

Later in the reunion, Back to the Future superfan JJ Abrams was brought onto the Zoom call.

The Star Wars director asked the cast what was the alternate title a Universal executive suggested naming the film during production.

“Spaceman from Pluto!” Lea answered, to everyone's surprise.

Gad also asked about the possibility of another Back to the Future sequel. “Bob and Bob have said there’s never gonna be another Back to the Future sequel, which I hope is a lie,” he said. “If hypothetically there were, I would love to hear what you would pitch for Marty and Doc to travel back to and why.”

Thompson, who played Marty McFly’s mum, quipped: “I’d like you to go back to, like, January, where they could warn us about the coronavirus.”

Again ruling out the possibility of another sequel, Zemeckis added: “If I had an idea that I could have pitched to Bob with a straight face, we would have made it.”

Last month, Back to the Future writer Gale cleared up one of the film’s biggest plot holes.
