A big screen version of the courtroom drama was originally released in 1957 starring Tyrone Power as a man on trial for murder, and Charles Laughton as his respected lawyer. Marlene Dietrich also appears in the six-time Oscar-nominated film from director Billy Wilder (Some Like It Hot ).
Christopher Keyser, best known for creating US teen drama Party of Five , will write the updated version of the film that'll be produced by Jennifer Todd and his Good Will Hunting co-star Matt Damon.
Affleck's last film as director was the Best Picture Oscar-winner Argo . Next up is action-thriller The Accountant - released 4 November 2016 - and Live By Night , an adaptation of the Dennis Lehane novel.
Despite DC's output thus far receiving its fair share of negative reviews, Affleck's performance as Bruce Wayne has been cited as a high point.
Live By Night arrives in UK cinemas on 13 January 2017 while Justice League will be released 17 November 2017.
