From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The first photos of Scarlett Johansson on the set of Marvel’s forthcoming Black Widow movie have been posted online.

The scene, shot just in the woods just outside of London’s Pinewood studios, sees the eponymous hero walking and talking to someone on a mobile phone.

Scarlett Johansson’s character, Natasha Romanova, was also spotted approaching a Land Rover. Co-star O-T Fagbenle (The Handmaid’s Tale) was also spotted on set.

Black Widow is expected to take place before the events of the first Avengers film. Marvel and Disney have yet to confirm that Black Widow is currently filming, with the studios deciding to announce their “Phase Four” plans later in the year.

Australian filmmaker Cate Shortland, best known for Nazi drama Lore, has already come on board as director. The script has been penned by Captain Marvel’s Jac Schaeffer.

Florence Pugh has joined the cast, playing a spy on the same level as Natasha Romanoff who will be her “moral opposite”. Rachel Weisz and David Harbour are also on board the film.
