From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

After going through ‘development hell’ for a few years, the sequel to Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner is full steam ahead, with Canadian filmmaker Denis Villeneuve on board to direct and Ryan Gosling to lead.

Earlier this year, Guardians of the Galaxy and Spectre’s Dave Bautista hinted he may be joining the cast while speculators thought House of Cards’ Robin Wright may also be on board.

The production company behind the upcoming sequel, Alcon Films, has officially announced both actors are in the cast and filming will officially begin in July.

As yet, very little is known about the film except Harrison Ford has been confirmed to be reprising his role as Rick Deckard and original screenwriters Michael Green and Hampton Fancher will be working on the script. Multi-Oscar nominee Roger Deakins will also be on board as cinematographer.

Scott revealed he wouldn't return to direct as he's busy working on the Prometheus sequel Alien: Covenant - a continuation of the Alien franchise he started in 1979.

Blade Runner 2 - thought to be titled Androids Dream - has a release date of 12 January 2018.
