Andrew Scott, who played the malevolent Jim Moriarty in Sherlock, has reportedly signed up to Bond 24.

The antagonist was previously thought to be being played by Christoph Waltz, though there is potentially room in the Skyfall sequel for both of them, given that Waltz's character is rumoured to be an initial ally who betrays Daniel Craig's Bond.

It's possible the Daily Mirror, which broke the news, just went "Hey, that Moriarty bloke was pretty evil in Sherlock and he has the requisite creepy British accent, maybe he's in Bond?" though they do claim to have an "insider" at the movie who confirmed his involvement.

"Andrew was hand-picked for a role in the new Bond movie after film bosses loved his star turn in Sherlock," the source told the newspaper.

"Casting directors thought he was perfect to play a baddie and they wanted to use his existing Sherlock profile - and amp it up to the next level.

"Andrew is hoping the move will see him leap from TV to the big screen, where he can eventually divide his time between London and LA. He knows this is his big break."

We will find out for certain tomorrow, when the film's cast and title are revealed at the 007 stage at Pinewood Studios.
