Prominent producers have denied claims that Harrison Ford will be replaced

Rumours that Bradley Cooper will be replacing Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones have been dismissed as “ridiculous” by producers.

An 'exclusive' report published on the Latino Review website named the American Hustle actor as a possible contender for the famous role, should Disney be considering a reboot.

But a spokesperson from Lucasfilm told Digital Spy that the recent speculation “isn’t true”.

The Latino Review article suggested that if the fifth instalment of Indiana Jones does not begin production soon, “the studios are 100 per cent prepared to recast a younger Dr Jones and ready up a new trilogy”.

Frank Marshall, a producer on all four films in the classic franchise, tweeted his reaction to their claims and vowed not to comment on projects unless there is official, “real news”.

“I can only confirm that Katy Perry will not be the new Indiana Jones,” he later confirmed, tongue firmly in cheek.

Director, screenwriter and producer Frank Darapont, who was cited as integral in the remake plans, also hit out at the rumours, telling AICN that there is “not a shred of truth” in them.

“I have not pitched an idea for a proposed Indiana Jones movie, nor has anybody approached me with such an idea,” he said. “The inaccurate report on Latino Review was the first I’d heard of it.”

Disney secured the rights to release more Indiana Jones films last December, making a remake likely at some stage.

River Phoenix and Sean Patrick Flanery have both portrayed the archaeologist action man in past takes on the film series. Ford is now 71-years-old, but might still reprise his role as an older version of the hero.
