Kirsten Dunst says she would make a Bring It On sequel: ‘Why not? It’d be so fun!’
Actor starred in the cult cheerleading comedy in 2000
Kirsten Dunst has revealed that she would be up for a Bring It On sequel.
Dunst starred in the cult comedy in 2000, playing the head cheerleader of a privileged Los Angeles school competing in a national championship against a squad led by Gabrielle Union.
While appearing on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Dunst said that she would happily make a follow-up. “If [the original creators] wanted to make another movie, I would make another movie,” she said. “Why not? It’d be so fun.”
She also said that Universal Pictures, the studio behind the film, had few expectations for its success. “We made that movie for no money, zero money,” she said. “It was a Universal movie, but like one of those that they were like ‘Go do what you want,’ like this little cheerleading movie.”
Ultimately grossing $92 million worldwide, the film led to a minor franchise of straight-to-video sequels featuring stars including Solange Knowles, Hayden Panettiere and Rihanna.
Dunst has been in the middle of a career renaissance in recent months, collecting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and earning career-best reviews for her role in the dark comedy On Becoming a God in Central Florida.
She also claimed that she had long felt “unrecognised” by Hollywood.
“Maybe they just think I’m the girl from Bring It On?” she said. “I just feel like, ‘What did I do?’ I am so chill. Maybe I don’t play the game enough.”
