Custody exclusive trailer: French drama takes a new, startling perspective on family and the aftermath of divorce
Xavier Legrand's debut feature has racked up rave reviews and won the Silver Lion at Venice Film Festival
The Silver Lion winner at the Venice Film Festival last year is headed to UK screens.
French filmmaker Xavier Legrand's debut feature, Custody, digs deep into the scarring aftermath of divorce from within a fractured family. When Antoine (Denis Ménochet) wins shared custody of his son Julian (Thomas Gioria), following the acrimonious divorce proceedings between and his wife Miriam (Léa Drucker), he attempts to reintegrate himself into his son's life.
Yet, the past cannot be so easily settled. The family's pain only comes to intensify, as the film breaks out into a compelling, unpredictable domestic drama that fuses both the European traditions of social realism and the sharp shocks of genre cinema.
A narrative continuation of Legrand's short Just Before Losing Everything, which was nominated for an Academy Award, Custody screened at several international festivals, including the London Film Festival, to great critical acclaim.
