Daniel Radcliffe in What If trailer: 'It’s very easy to be cynical about love until you have that instant connection'

He’s come a long way from wands and wizardry – and in the soon-to-be-released What If Daniel Radcliffe tackles the eternal theme of right person; wrong time.

The first official trailer for the romantic comedy, which is due to hit screens in the summer, depicts 24-year-old Radcliffe as medical school dropout Wallace who is, of course, unlucky in love.

That is until he falls for Chantry (Zoe Kazan), but there’s one small problem – she lives with her long-term boyfriend Ben (Rafe Spall).

The film centres on the question of “what if” the love of your life is actually your best friend?

And can men and women really be friends?

In the trailer Wallace is seen telling his roommate Allan (Adam Driver of Girls): “You can’t interact with a woman without sec screwing it in but I can, because I’m a grown-up.”

To which Allan replies: “That is so adorable that you really believe that.”

Wallace is later seen delivering a speech in which he says: “It’s very easy to be cynical about love until you have that instant connection. If you’re lucky it happens once in a lifetime.”

The Michael Dowse-directed film was previously released in Canada under the title The F Word and won the Canadian Screen Award for Adapted Screenplay.

CBS acquired the rights and changed the title ahead of the movie’s release on 1 August.
