Danny Boyle says new James Bond film will be inspired by Time's Up: 'It'll be written in the modern world'

It seems 007's sexist days could officially be behind him

The James Bond franchise will differ under the direction of Danny Boyle.

The Trainspotting filmmaker, who seemed to confirm his involvement in Bond 25 following the departure of Skyfall and Spectre director Sam Mendes, promised that he will look at the “modern world” when it comes to writing the role of the next Bond girl.

When asked how the film would evolve in the #MeToo and Time’s Up era, Page Six reports that Boyle – who will co-write the script alongside frequent collaborator John Hodge – said: “You write in real time. You acknowledge the legacy of the world of Bond and you write in the world – but you also write in the modern world as well.”

He remained tight-lipped on any specifics, regarding new characters, stating: “I can’t tell you yet, will report back later.”

The filmmaker was speaking at a New York screening of his new FX show Trust on Wednesday.

Daniel Craig will reprise the role of 007 for what is expected to be the last time. While unconfirmed by MGM and Eon Productions, it’s thought that Boyle – whose credits include 28 Days Later and Slumdog Millionaire – beat a list of heavyweight contenders for the job including Christopher Nolan, David Mackenzie and Yann Demange.

He will work on a Beatles-themed musical comedy written by Richard Curtis before embarking on Bond.
