Fox and Marvel Studios have shared a relatively turbulent relationship over the years thanks to the former studio owning the rights to the X-Men and Fantastic Four series.

However, the pair have begun working with each other regularly, including the X-Men television series Legion which is being produced by Marvel Television.

Speaking at a Q&A following a screening of Deadpool, screenwriter Paul Wernick revealed how Fox and Marvel basically did a character swap.

According to The Playlist, Wernick told the audience how, in order to use their version of Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Fox offered Marvel the chance to use Ego the Living Planet, who will appear in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

"Kurt Russell [‘s Ego the Living Planet] in the new Guardians movie was the character that Fox swapped with Marvel to [change] Negasonic Teenage Warhead powers," Wernick said.

In short, because Fox wanted to make substantial changes to Negasonic Teenage Warhead, they had to ask Marvel for permission, offering Ego as payment.

Also at the Q&A, Wernick revealed how the Deadpool sequel will have a budget similar to the original film and confirmed it won’t be stuffed with X-Men.

Meanwhile, Ryan Reynolds recently spoke about director Tim Miller’s departure from Deadpool 2. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 - which hits cinemas next year - received its first trailer just before the release of Doctor Strange.
