District 9 director Neill Blomkamp releases trailer for new sci-fi project

Featuring some new reptilian aliens

Neill Blomkamp has released a trailer teasing new experimental film studio Oats Studios.

Titled Oats: Volume 1, the minute-long clip starts by depicting the Eiffel Tower covered in fauna while a voice over explains how aliens have come to wipe out humanity.

Suddenly, a montage of action-packed shots featuring explosions, reptilian aliens, and lots of gunfire. Watch below.

The District 9 and Chappie director has been teasing the project throughout the year, posting photos on Twitter and asking whether fans would pay for short experimental films on the game service Steam.

While Blomkamp may be nest known for riveting blockbusters, the South African filmmaker began by making short films such as Alive in Joburg, which formed the basic premise for District 9.

Most recently, Blompkamp directed the Jon Bernthal-starring BMW-sponsored short film The Escape. Ridley Scott also confirmed that Blomkamp’s Alien sequel is no longer being worked on thanks to Scott’s prequel series having taken over.
