Doctor Sleep: Ewan McGregor and Rebecca Ferguson star in first trailer for The Shining sequel
Film coming later this year
The first trailer for Doctor Sleep has been released, giving viewers a taste of what’s to come when the sequel to The Shining hits cinemas later this year.
Ewan McGregor and Rebecca Ferguson both star in the adaptation of Stephen King‘s 2013 novel of the same name.
Doctor Sleep, the novel, came as the second instalment to King’s 1977 book The Shining.
The Shining was famously adapted into a 1980 horror film starring Jack Nicholson and Shelley Duvall.
The 1980 movie also featured Danny Lloyd as Danny Torrance – the character now played as an adult by McGregor.
Judging by the newly released trailer, Torrance has retained his psychic powers and is now encountering children with the same abilities.
Ferguson, meanwhile, plays the head of a cult that feeds on those same children.
The trailer ends with a shot in which McGregor’s Torrance looks through a partially broken down door – calling to mind Nicholson’s famous “Here’s Johnny!” sequence in The Shining.
Doctor Sleep will be released on 31 October in the UK and on 8 November in the US.
