Eva Mendes has hit back at a fan who claimed she has stepped away from Instagram to have “work done”.

Last week, Mendes, 46, said she was taking a break from social media after her daughter called her out for spending too much time on her phone.

She told her followers: "I could tell she was taking it personally. And she’s a kid, of course she’d take it personally. They take things personally unless we go out of our way to make it clear to them it’s not personal.

“So we had good talk, I apologised and I promised her I’d be mindful,” she continued. "I realised that just because I’m always home with them doesn’t mean I’m always present."

Now, Mendes – who has two children with Ryan Gosling – was prompted to step in after one fan hinted that her hiatus was due to getting "work done”.

After one follower asked why she had decided to temporarily leave Instagram, one person responded: “She's had work done and I don't think she's happy with it.. she was beautiful without."

Mendes then corrected this person, stating: “I'm not sure why I'm answering you but here I go. I'm posting less because I really want to be present for my family. My little ones need me and posting takes up too much time.”

She added: "As far as getting work done, I'll do that whenever I please. But no, that's not the reason. The reason is I personally cannot juggle family and social media. So -big shocker -I choose family.

"Lotsa love to you out there," Mendes concluded.

In 2017, during a Golden Globes acceptance speech, Gosling thanked Mendes for “raising our daughter, pregnant with our second and trying to help her brother fight his battle with cancer” while he worked on the film La La Land.

“If she hadn’t taken all that on so that I could have this experience, it would surely be someone else up here other than me to today,” he said, adding: “Sweetheart, thank you.”
