While Western posters for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them inevitably focused on its A-list cast, China’s showcased its beasts and quite artistically.

Six posters were created by artist Zhang Chun, inspired by gongbi - a realist Chinese painting technique involving highly detailed brushstrokes that originated around 2000 years ago during the Han Dynasty.

The Niffler, Demiguise, Bowtruckle, Occamy, Thunderbird and Swooping Evil are all depicted, the Demiguise being particularly striking.

The Harry Potter spin-off took $40m (£32m) at the box office during its opening weekend in China, a market Hollywood is considering more and more when greenlighting its franchises.

There was some confusion recently over whether Eddie Redmayne’s Newt Scamander would remain the protagonist for Fantastic Beasts 2, but J.K. Rowling has since cleared that up.
