Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: JK Rowling has already written sequel to Harry Potter spin-off

According to the director, the film is 'pure Jo'

Despite the first Harry Potter novel coming out almost 20 years ago, the wizarding saga is far from over; not only is the eighth part, The Cursed Child, currently running at the West End but the first part of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is set to reach cinemas later this year.

According to director David Yates, author JK Rowling, making her screenwriting debut with Fantastic Beasts, has already finished the second one and has various ideas for the third.

“We’ve done the first one, she’s written the second one, [and] she’s got ideas for the third one,” he told GSN.

He also discussed the difference between working on the past Harry Potter adaptations - Yates having helmed Order of the Phoenix, Half-Blood Prince, and both parts of the Deathly Hallows - and the upcoming film.

“It’s sort of lovely in a way. When we adapted the books, you would always have to leave out things that you hate leaving out because they didn’t quite work within the structure of the storytelling for the movie, or the movie would just be far too long. With this, it’s just pure Jo [Rowling] from the first page to the last page.”

Recently, a new featurette introduced the world to the film’s lead protagonist, Eddie Redmayne’s Newt Scamander, Rowling giving further details on his magical creatures.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them hits UK cinemas 18 November.
