Earlier this month Marvel announced three untitled films for the year 2020. Then, only days later, Fox announced that they were working with the superhero creators to release an X-Men TV show.

Coincidence? Den of Geek think not. They allegedly found out from a source that all this movement is because Fox have in fact given their rights to the Fantastic Four back to Marvel Studios.

Fox released their rebooted version of the Fantastic Four earlier this year to abysmal reviews, leading to the company unsure whether to green light a sequel or not.

According to the report, they have exchanged the rights with Marvel for the X-Men TV shows Hellfire and Legacy. You can read about that deal here.

It is also reported that the film will be released in 2020, taking up one of the three as-yet-untitled movies Marvel have planned.

This wouldn’t be the first time a Marvel property has returned to the studio from another. Last year, Sony and Marvel studios stuck a deal to bring Spider-Man back to the studio, Andrew Garfield’s version having bombed at the box office.

Whether these rumours are true, it is uncertain and don’t expect official confirmation for some time. However, if the deal has gone through that would mean Marvel have the rights back to some of their best villains including Dr Doom, Galactus and the Silver Surfer.

It’s an exciting time to be a superhero fan.
