Ferdinand clip - weird is the new normal

Dwayne Johnson. Dave Bautista. John Cena. Wrestlers are taking over Hollywood.

Cena, for one, has inched in through the comedy scene. Though he's contributed to more serious fare, like the WWE-produced The Marine, his more memorable appearances have been a string of cameo in studio comedies: namely Trainwreck, Sisters, and Daddy's Home.

The logical next step? The world of animation. He's voicing the lead in Blue Sky Studios and 20th Century Fox Animation's new adventure Ferdinand, centred on a Spanish Fighting Bull who has much more of a penchant for smelling the flowers and spreading joy than entering the ring and facing up against the matador.

However, after being mistaken for a dangerous beast, Ferdinand is captured and torn from his home. Determined to be reunited with his family, he rallies a misfit team and heads off on an adventure.

It's inspired by the children's book The Story of Ferdinand, penned by Munro Leaf and illustrated by Robert Lawson. In 1938, Life magazine named it the "greatest juvenile classic since Winnie the Pooh".

Cena voices the titular bull, joining the likes of Kate McKinnon, Anthony Anderson, Bobby Cannavale, Peyton Manning, Gina Rodriguez, David Tennant, Daveed Diggs, Jerrod Carmichael, and Gabriel Iglesias.

Ferdinand is available on digital now and on Blu-ray and DVD from 16 April.
