For those who haven’t experienced virtual reality, the idea of purchasing a headset such as the recently released PlayStation VR seems almost ridiculous. One colleague said: ‘Over £350 on a gimmick device you won’t play much? What a waste of money.’

Please, seek out some form of virtual reality experience, whether Oculus, HTC Vive, or Google’s new smartphone friendly device. It’s quite extraordinary and will no-doubt be the future of gaming and technology.

As with all great things, though, there are some people intent on ruining a good thing. Introducing, the Fifty Shades Darker VR experience, putting you directly in the red room with Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey.

At least the film adaptation’s director, James Foley, was excited about the idea. Speaking to an audience at Paramount where Deadline were in attendance, he said: “There’s marketing materials for behind-the-scenes [of Fifty Shades Darker], where after we finished shooting for the day, the actors would stay over and VR people would re-create a facsimile of the scene.

“My own personal instinct is that cinema is going to move to VR because it’s an extension of the visual language. For myself, watching the material they generated expanded my brain.”

Last month, the first trailer for the ‘erotic romantic drama’ starring Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan was released, becoming the biggest trailer premiere of all time.
