The Uber revolution has taken a unique turn following the announcement that Fox will make an action-comedy about one of the popular service's drivers.

Tapping into the popularity of the mobile app, Tripper Clancy wrote the script for Stuber which, according to Deadline, has now been acquired by Fox for a six-figure fee.

The deal for the original screenplay - which follows one tumultous night in the life of Uber driver Stu - is particularly impressive considering Hollywood's current obsession with remakes, adaptations and superhero sequels.

Stuber isn't the first film focused on the driving service; 9 Rides - which premiered at South by Southwest last month - follows a driver who gets life changing news on the busiest night of the year. It's the first film to be shot on iPhone 6s in 4k resolution.

Clancy is known to Fox having embarked on the studio's writing programme; he has an extensive list of writing credits due to be commencing production this year. These include Henry the Second - a coming-of-age comedy starring Anna Kendrick - and Hasbro's Hacker Camp.

Assisting Clancy in the screenplay's development was writing duo Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley who are set to write Tom Holland's first solo Spider-Man outing - officially titled Spider-Man: Homecoming - for Sony.

Uber was initially founded by Travis Kalanick and Garrett Camp in 2009 with international expansion outside of America following in 2012. As of last year, the transportation company was worth an estimated $62.5 billion.

We're not sure what Stuber's plot entails but we're sure if the film's events are being touted as 'harrowing,' an UberPool will probably be involved somewhere.
