Last year, James Cameron caused controversy after making negative comments regarding Wonder Woman, calling the character “an objectified icon,” adding how the new adaptation is “a step backwards”.

While Patty Jenkins and Lynda Carter both responded publicly, Wonder Woman actor Gal Gadot — who has appeared as the character three times in major blockbusters — remained quiet on the matter, only now speaking about Cameron’s comments.

Asked why she never responded by Entertainment Weekly, Gadot said: “Because I didn’t want to give him the stage.”

“First of all, I’m a big fan of his work,” she said. “His movies are great. He was very innovative in many things that he did, and I’ve got nothing but great things to say about the creative and professional side of his work.

“When it happened, the timing of when it happened, he was promoting another movie of his. It was like he was looking for publicity and I just didn’t want to give him the stage.”

When asked follow-up questions about his comments, Cameron doubled-down, saying: "I mean, she was Miss Israel, and she was wearing a kind of bustier costume that was very form-fitting.

“She’s absolutely drop-dead gorgeous. To me, that's not breaking ground. They had Raquel Welch doing stuff like that in the '60s."

Meanwhile, Wonder Woman has been picking up some awards buzz around Hollywood, recently being nominated for a Producers Guild Awards.
