Gillian Anderson is keen to be Paul Feig’s first recruit for his new all-female Ghostbusters reboot.

The actress, who recently starred in A Streetcar Named Desire on the London stage, expressed her interest during a Q&A on Reddit.

Despite not sounding familiar with the project, she was enthusiastic to join the film.

“OH MY GOD, I just looked it up online. Paul Feig, cast me now! Start a Twitter petition! I’m free!!!!! I’m free I’m free and I’m funny, goddammit!”

When a Reddit user offered to help the actress in her petition to get a role, she replied: “MAKE IT HAPPEN!!”

Last week, Feig confirmed on Twitter that the sequel to the franchise will centre on an all-female team and will star “hilarious women”.

A reboot of the Eighties films has been rumoured for some time, with original actor Bill Murray backing the idea of a new female trio.

The actor said he did not want to return to the reboot, but proposed Bridesmaids actresses Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig as possible stars.

“Melissa would be a spectacular Ghostbuster. And Kristen Wiig is so funny – God, she’s funny!”, he told the Toronto Star.

Feig will reunite with The Heat screenwriter Katie Dippold to co-write the script, with Ivan Reitman serving as a producer on the film, which has yet to be given a release date.
