With a new Ghostbusters movie comes a new theme. Naturally.

And this round of ghostbusting will be accompanied by the strains of Fall Out Boy, collaborating with Missy Elliott on a revamped version of Ray Parker Jr.'s iconic theme song from the 1984 original. With new takes, comes new titles; as the theme is now going by the name, "Ghostbusters (I'm Not Afraid)".

The retooled theme was always fated to be the shakiest part of the new film, so there's little surprise that what's been delivered is pretty cringeworthy in its content. It's the element most nostalgically tied to the original; and it's near impossible to pay tribute to the most gloriously, cheesy theme of its decade while simultaneously updating itself for a new generation.

But then again, we could have done with a lot more Missy Elliott, and a lot less distortion pedals. A lot less.

It's pretty clear Ghostbusters is trying to draw in the Hot Topic crowd here; which is bad news for a lot of music fans, but great news for the studio's hopes to replicate the original's gargantuan merchandising sales. And enlisting Fall Out Boy is going to pretty much guarantee those t-shirts start flying off shelves with a terrifying speed.

There's hope the rest of the soundtrack might serve us stronger hits for the new team; with Elle King's "Good Girls" providing some lively rockabilly vibes to the game. Elsewhere, the likes of G-Eazy ft. Jeremih, 5 Seconds of Summer, Pentatonix, WALK THE MOON, and Wolf Alice are all set to feature.

The run-up to the film's release has seen a barrage of new footage released, including the reintroduction of the 1984's classic villain the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man; alongside a better look at the new team of Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones.

Ghostbusters hits UK cinemas 11 July.
