Golden Globes 2018 winner predictions for every film category, from Best Drama and Best Actress to Best Director

It's the closest race in years

This year's Golden Globes race is the closest in years with a whole range of film and TV titles in the running to emerge victorious at the ceremony scheduled to take place in Hollywood this Sunday (7 January).

Leading the film pack this year is Guillermo del Toro's fantasy romance The Shape of Water with seven nominations which, while spearheaded by a fantastic Sally Hawkins performance, faces tough competition in the form of romantic drama Call Me By Your Name, black comedy Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri and Steven Spielberg drama The Post.

Then there's WWII thriller Dunkirk which looks set to win Christopher Nolan his first Golden Globe for Best Director.

Comedy-wise, Greta Gerwig's directorial debut Lady Bird leads the pack with a total of four nominations including Best Actress for Saoirse Ronan who would do well to beat Margot Robbie's impressive turn as figure skater Tonya Harding in the biographical I, Tonya.

Many will be rooting for Daniel Kaluuya and his 2017 horror satire Get Out which - confusingly to some - has been nominated in the Comedy/Musical category in a bid to improve its chances of winning.

Over in the dramatic acting categories, it looks to be an old-fashioned duke out between rising star Timothée Chalamet and British favourite Gary Oldman - one for his affecting turn in Call Me By Your Name, the other for his transformation into Winston Churchill for Joe Wright film Darkest Hour.

While Lady Bird's Laurie Metcalf remains the one to beat in the Supporting Acress category, Willem Dafoe's string of Supporting Actor wins for The Florida Project may meet an obstacle in the for of Christopher Plummer's last-minute work replacing Kevin Spacey in Ridley Scott film All the Money in the World.
