The production company behind the Bridget Jones's Diary movies was yesterday forced to deny reports that Hugh Grant had quit the third instalment because of issues with the script.

Tim Bevan, the co-chairman of Working Title Films, admitted that shooting on Bridget Jones's Baby had been delayed but denied a rift with Grant, saying reports he had exited ''are untrue".

It is understood the producers felt more work was needed on the script, credited to Bridget Jones author Helen Fielding and David Nicholls, and it is being rewritten.

"We are still working on the script, hence the delay to the start of production," Bevan said. "The film is going ahead as planned." A spokeswoman for the production company said shooting would be pushed back to coincide with the cast's schedules. Renée Zellweger is to star again, alongside Hugh Grant and Colin Firth.
