Harry Potter sequels teased by WarnerMedia CEO: ‘There’s a lot of fun and potential there’

Comments made during an investors conference could point towards more Potter films

The CEO of WarnerMedia appeared to allude to forthcoming additions to the Harry Potter film universe while speaking at an investors conference today (4 March).

JK Rowling’s bestselling children’s books were adapted by Warner Bros into a series of successful films released between 2001 and 2011.

Speaking at a webcast session during the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media and Telecommunications conference, WarnerMedia CEO Jason Kilar said (per THR): “There’s this little thing called Harry Potter, which is one of the most beloved franchises.

“And we’re incredibly thankful to be able to partner with JK Rowling and so I would argue there’s a lot of fun and potential there as well.”

While Kilar did not expand on the nature of the “potential”, some have taken his comments to imply that more feature-length projects could be in the pipeline.

It’s also possible that Harry Potter could be adapted into a TV series, as was rumoured earlier this year (though Warner Bros denied that the rumours were true).

The Fantastic Beasts films, set in the Potter universe but decades before the main series begins, are currently just two entries into a planned five-movie saga.

The spin-off franchise has faced mixed reviews and difficulties behind the scenes, however.

Actor Johnny Depp, who played the villain Gellert Grindelwald in the first and second films, resigned from the franchise last year after losing a libel case against The Sun over a 2018 article that called him a “wife beater”. He will be replaced in future films by Mads Mikkelsen.

A high-budget video game Hogwarts Legacy is also currently in development.
