The first trailer for this year's Cannes Palme d'Or winner I Daniel Blakehas been released.

British filmmaker Ken Loach's latest film is a drama focused on a middle-aged widower in northern England struggling to work or claim government benefits following a crippling heart attack.

Written by frequent collaborator Paul Laverty (The Angels' Share, Jimmy's Hall), the award-winner stars Dave Johns as the struggling character of the title. Hayley Squires and Dylan McKiernan co-star.

While receiving acclaim following its initial premiere at this year's Cannes Film Festival, many were left underwhelmed by 79-year-old Loach's victory feeling that superior films had been left unrewarded (German comedyToni Erdman, Jim Jarmusch film Paterson).

Loach also won back in 2006 with IRA drama The Wind That Shakes the Barley (also penned by Laverty).

The BFI-backed film will be released in the UK on 21 October.
