It Follows director's next film revealed, will star Andrew Garfield
Under the Silver Lake has been described as a "modern-day noir crime thriller set in Los Angeles"
There was many a sleepless night caused by David Robert Mitchell's It Follows, last year's breakout horror, which revamped the sexual anxieties of the '80s slasher for a new generation.
Now, the director returns; Variety reports he'll both pen and helm Under the Silver Lake, a project described as a "modern-day noir crime thriller set in Los Angeles". Though avoiding a return to the horror genre here, much of It Follows' success was based on Mitchell's tense, haunting use of imagery; which will likely play well in the neon-soaked, urban settings of Tinseltown.
Mitchell's already got a big star attached in former Spider-Man Andrew Garfield; who's been filling his superhero film departure with low-key, interesting dramatic projects.
Last year, he starred alongside the formidable Michael Shannon in housing crisis film 99 Homes; with Martin Scorsese's highly-anticipated Silence on the horizon, as well as Mel Gibson's WWII drama Hacksaw Ridge.
