James Bond of past and future (?) Daniel Craig and Idris Elba run into each other, kiss

It was inevitable that the (probably) former 007 Daniel Craig and (potentially) future one Idris Elba would meet sooner or later, and it seemed the encounter finally happened this week at the non-televised Governors Awards in LA.

Craig, who has been asked about the possibility of Elba taking over at least a thousand times in the run up to the Spectre premiere, didn’t mess around. According to The Hollywood Reporter:

‘Daniel Craig ran into Idris Elba, who has long been mentioned in any Bond-replacement discussion, at the bar. "He came up to me, looked me in the eyes, grabbed my face and kissed me on the cheek," says Elba, who gave Craig a hard time for talking to the media about the Beasts of No Nation star playing 007. Elba says Craig laughed: "They asked me if you can play Bond. What am I going to say? No?”…’

Craig originally said he’d “rather slash his wrists” than play the spy again, but has since backtracked a little. Elba meanwhile, has been at the centre of a quite ridiculous debate over whether Bond can be black.

Given Spectre’s climactic finish, I wouldn’t be surprised if the franchise does get a bit of a reboot with a new lead actor and director, though we may not get confirmation on this for a while.
