Golden Globes: James Corden mocked by Tina Fey over his performance in The Prom

Corden fell victim to co-host despite being nominated

James Corden failed to escape the targets of Tina Fey and Amy Poehler during their Golden Globes opening monologue.

The pair hosted the annual ceremony from two different locations – one in Los Angeles, the other in New York – with the broadcast stitching them together so they could perform an opening monologue “side-by-side”.

While the majority of their skit was good natured, Fey and Poehler reserved the harshest jokes for Netflix comedy series Emily in Paris, Sia’scontroversial film Music and Corden for his performance in The Prom, for which he was nominated.

In the Netflix musical, the straight Corden plays ailing gay Broadway star Barry Glickman, and his performance was savagely torn apart by critics as “gross and offensive” at the time of its release in December.

During the opener, Fey quipped: “The Queen’s Gambit is whatever James Corden was up to in The Prom, I guess.”

Corden, ever the sport, smiled along as the broadcast cut to the actor and presenter who was signed on from home.

Elsewhere during the ceremony, many high-profile starscriticised the lack of diversity among the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPS), the organisation’s voters that hasn’t had a Black member for at least 20 years.

The evening’s most powerful speech came from Taylor Simone Ledward, the wife of the late Chadwick Boseman, who accepted his posthumous award for Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.
