Jojo Rabbit trailer: Marvel director Taika Waititi portrays Hitler in controversial satire

Black comedy has reportedly sparked concern with Disney employees

The first trailer for Taika Waititi’s Hitler satire, Jojo Rabbit, has been released.

Weeks after it was reported Disney was “concerned” the new release would “alienate” the studio’s core fanbase, a full look has bee unveiled – and it looks just as zany as people were expecting.

The film, set during the Second World War, revolves around a little boy whose imaginary friend is Adolf Hitler. Waititi – who also wrote the film – plays the Nazi leader.

Jojo Rabbit was acquired from Fox by Disney in the recent takeover and, according to a report in Variety, Disney executives voiced their concerns over the release.

It’s Waititi’s first film since Thor: Ragnarok (2017). The New Zealand star will next oversee Marvel sequel Thor: Love and Thunder, which will introduce Natalie Portman as a female version of the superhero.

It’ll make its premiere in the UK at the London Film Festival on 5 October before a general release on 1 January, 2020.

Waititi’s previous credits include What We Do in the Shadows and Hunt for the Wilderpeople.
