Who knows where it came from, but Warner Bros. has suddenly developed an intense Joker-mania.

Hot on the heels of new reports the studio is working with Martin Scorsese on a Joker origins tale, entirely unrelated to the DCEU, The Hollywood Reporter now reveals that the DCEU's Joker will also be getting his own film, albeit one he'll have to share with Suicide Squad's real scene-stealer, Harley Quinn.

The Joker-Harley Quinn movie will see Jared Leto and Margot Robbie return to their roles from the 2016 film, for a new outing helmed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa, the pair behind NBC drama This Is Us and the 2011 film Crazy, Stupid, Love.

The film is planned to fit in the schedule after Suicide Squad 2, with an insider describing it as, "an insane and twisted love story. When Harry Met Sally on benzedrine".

The DCEU's future is feeling increasingly unclear at this point, especially when it comes to Warner Bros.' plans for an entirely different string of movies based outside of the cinematic universe. Will there really be two Jokers running amok in cinemas at once?

Coupled with that is the revelation that Matt Reeves' The Batman will also be a standalone movie outside of the DC universe, which in turn may mean a new Batman who isn't Ben Affleck.

No release date has been set yet for the Joker-Harley Quinn film.
