The Rock announces Jumanji 2 after Welcome to the Jungle becomes biggest ever Sony title in US

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle has officially become Sony's highest-grossing film at the US box office, though not adjusted for inflation.

With a total of $403.71 million, that beats out the first Spider-Man trilogy, Skyfall, Spider-Man: Homecoming, and Men in Black. Sony's natural response? Order a sequel, of course.

Star Dwayne Johnson thanked fans on Instagram for their support of the film, adding: "I always have one goal with these movies - it's always giving the audiences what they want."

He then announced that, as a producer on the film, he was part of the development of a sequel. "Speaking of giving the audience what they want, I'm gonna go ahead and kill Kevin Hart's character off for good, and everybody will be happy," he joked.

The Jumanji reboot also earned an impressive $950.8 million globally, ranking as the top-grossing movie in the studio's history for a wholly-owned Sony title. 2015's Spectre did earn more internationally, but the studio distributed the film on behalf of MGM.

The film topped the chart for four weekends in total, including three consecutive weekends, and became the first December wide release since 1997's Titanic to top the chart in February. It also marks the highest-grossing film for stars Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, and Karen Gillan.
