Justice League: Zack Snyder gives fans an update and extended trailer for the Snyder Cut

Series will arrive on HBO Max in 2021

DC fans have been given a much-anticipated update on Zack Snyder’s forthcoming Justice League: Snyder Cut.

The director is currently undertaking a comprehensive re-edit of the movie, which will turn it into a four-hour miniseries that aligns more closely with his original vision (known as the “Snyder Cut”).

Snyder left the production of Justice League part-way through, with Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator Joss Whedon stepping in to finish the project.

However, following a vehement online fan campaign, US streaming service HBO Max commissioned Snyder to re-edit Justice League at considerable expense.

Yesterday (17 November), the director released an extended trailer for the Snyder Cut on his Twitter. The timing is no coincidence given that Whedon’s Justice League – which was critically panned and poorly received by fans – debuted on the same day in 2017.

The black-and-white clip – which has since been liked over 91,000 times – was accompanied by a live stream broadcast during which Snyder gave fans an update on when to expect the series. 

“The cut is locked, and I’m looking at these shots as they’re coming in,” he said.

He also confirmed that any additional filming – including a new scene featuring the return of Jared Leto’s Joker – has now wrapped. The series is in the hands of VFX artists (visual effects).

Snyder added: “I’m excited for you guys to see the giant amount of movie you have coming your way in 2021." However, the director denied to give an exact release date.

The Snyder Cut reportedly runs for over four hours. It has been confirmed that at least half of that time consists of never-before-seen footage.

The original Justice League saw Batman (Ben Affleck), The Flash (Ezra Miller), Cyborg (Ray Fisher), Aquaman (Jason Momoa) and Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) team up to defeat the deific supervillain Steppenwolf.
