Robin Williams film Boulevard in danger of not reaching cinemas

Reports suggest that the movie has been struggling to find a distributor

Late actor Robin Williams' final ever film might be in danger of never reaching screens, recent reports suggest.

The Oscar winner's suicide in August sparked widespread tributes just weeks after an early cut of his latest movie Boulevard received positive reviews at New York's Tribeca Film Festival.

Williams plays middle-aged married man Nolan Mack, who struggles to come to turns with his sexuality after falling in love with a gay prostitute.

But despite anticipated demand for the Good Will Hunting star's last film, producers have so far failed to find a distributor to bring Boulevard to cinemas. It was scheduled for release a few months ago but a lack of financial backing put an end to plans.

"It's really sad but it is looking impossible that Boulevard will ever see the light of day now," a source told The Mirror.

"It has proved to be a struggle for it to find the support it needs to be released. The cast have tried, as have the crew, but for many reasons it is looking very unlikely.

"There is one suggestion it isn't up to scratch and is failing on merit to find anyone to distribute it."

The film has not been ruled out and Williams' publicist did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Before his death, Williams described Boulevard as a "beautiful, sad movie" that was "powerful to do".

Three further movies starring Williams are yet to be released: Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb, due out in December; A Merry Friggin' Christmas, premiering in the US on 7 November; and Absolutely Anything, in which Robin voices Simon Pegg's dog.
