Lights Out trailer: Terrifying YouTube horror short has been turned into Hollywood film
"Everyone's afraid of the dark and that's what she feeds on"
Horror maestro James Wan (Saw, The Conjuring) is continuing to build up his scary movie repertoire as producer of Lights Out, a big screen version of a YouTube short that terrified millions back in 2014.
The plot is frighteningly simple: a woman is haunted by a ghostly figure that only appears in darkness. The adaptation being a feature-length film, the plot has been fleshed out somewhat. Lights Out stars Teresa Palmer (Warm Bodies) as Rebecca, a girl who was plagued with visions of an ominous entity as a young child. Believing she had escaped her past, the horror catches up with her - and it may or may not have something to do with her mother, Sophie (Maria Bello) and a dead woman known as Diana.
We suggest you watch the original short from director David F. Sandberg below. Impressively, Sandberg also directs the film version also providing inspiration to aspiring filmmakers everywhere.
Whether Sandberg can eke out the tension across a full-length feature as opposed to a three minute short remains to be seen, but the chilling premise certainly speaks for itself.
Now, let's hope we're never in a power cut again.
Lights Out will be released 19 August.
