Little Women trailer: Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson and Timothée Chalamet star in Greta Gerwig’s Oscar-primed adaptation
The eagerly anticipated film also stars Florence Pugh, Laura Dern and Meryl Streep
The first trailer for Greta Gerwig’s star-studded adaptation of Little Women has been released.
Gerwig’s follow-up to her Oscar-winning Lady Bird, Little Women tracks the coming-of-age of the March sisters: Jo (Saoirse Ronan), Meg (Emma Watson), Amy (Florence Pugh) and Beth (Eliza Scanlan).
Fellow Lady Bird alumnus Timothée Chalamet is Laurie, the wealthy boy next door who tangles with at least two of the sisters, Laura Dern is their mother Marmee, while Meryl Streep is their aunt.
Gerwig told Vanity Fair earlier this year that Alcott’s original novel was like an “autobiography” to her. “When you live through a book, it almost becomes the landscape of your inner life,” she said. “It becomes part of you, in a profound way.”
Gerwig’s Little Women is the most high-profile film adaptation of Alcott’s novel since 1994, when Winona Ryder, Claire Danes, Kirsten Dunst and Trini Alvarado played the sisters, with Christian Bale, Gabriel Byrne and Susan Sarandon filling out the ensemble. It earned three Oscar nominations, including one for Ryder.
Little Women is released on Boxing Day.
