Remember in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Rey attempts to swap some junk with Simon Pegg’s Untar Plutt for ‘portions’ - i.e. that white powder that turned to instant bread (or Polystarch).

After the film’s release, the VFX team revealed that the bread wasn’t actually CGI at all, the effect was just an inflatable object hidden beneath the water which was pumped up by the team.

That doesn’t actually sound too tasty, but luckily one keen chef has created a working recipe for quarter portions, all you need simple household ingredients, a mug and a microwave.

The full recipe, by Jenn Fujikawa.

Ingredients:

1/2 teaspoon vegetable oil

4 tablespoons cake flour

1-1/2 tablespoons sugar

1/2 teaspoon matcha powder

1/4 teaspoon baking powder

pinch of salt

2 tablespoons whole milk

1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions:

1. Place the oil in a mug and swirl around to grease the inside.

2. Add the cake flour, sugar, matcha powder, baking powder and salt into the mug, stirring together.

3. Pour in the milk and vanilla, then cook in the microwave on high for 45 seconds.

4. Let cool slightly and serve.

Unfortunately, unlike in the film, you can’t just put the white powder on a stove, you’ll have to just let microwave work its magic. As you can see, some Tweeters have already tried out the recipe to great effect.
