Long revered as Britain's most successful comedy franchise, it was only a matter of time until the Carry On series received an official reboot.

Variety has reported that movements are finally being made with Carry On Doctors is being written by the writers behind BBC sitcom Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps.

This film will kick off a new slate of films with another - Carry On Campus - already in the works

Speaking about the decision to revamp the series, Hereford Films' Jonathan Sothcott said: "We are making a new entry in the series with love and care: it isn’t a remake or an attempt to reinvent the wheel... We’re looking to create a whole new ensemble of brilliant British comedic actors. No stunt casting. No big American stars.

"This will be British film at its best, as the truly remarkable heritage deserves.”

The original series, starring beloved actors Sid James, Kenneth Williams and Barbara Windsor, spanned over three decades delivering a total of 31 films from 1958 to 1992. Classics included Carry On Camping, Carry On Screaming and Carry On Up the Khyber.

Renowned for their slapstick and bawdy humour, the films remain a British institution to this day.

No cast or filming dates have been announced, but the petition to get Hugh Grant a lead role in Carry On Doctors starts right here.
