People have been congratulating the wrong woman for directing Booksmart, mistaking actor Olivia Munn for director Olivia Wilde.

Munn, who has starred in Ocean’s 8 and X-Men: Apocalypse, revealed on Twitter that people keep telling her how much they love Wilde’s 2019 comedy.

“Last night a lot of people told me how much they love my movie @booksmart & how we need more female directors like me,” she wrote.

“First, I too loved that movie. Second, yes to more female directors! And lastly, @oliviawilde people love your movie & your directing, so wanted to pass that on.”

Wilde then retweeted Munn’s post with three crying-laughing emojis.

This year’s Oscars have been criticised for snubbing female directors, with Greta Gerwig missing out on a nomination for Little Women, Lulu Wang for The Farewell, Lorene Scafaria for Hustlers, Melina Matsoukas for Queen & Slim, Marielle Heller for A Beautiful Day in the Neighbourhood and Alma Har'el for Honey Boy.

South Korean black comedy Parasite was the evening's biggest winner, making history by becoming the first ever foreign language film to win Best Picture.
