On Chesil Beach exclusive clip sparks romance between Saoirse Ronan and Billy Howle
The film adapts Atonement author Ian McEwan's 2007 novella of the same name
Saoirse Ronan's follow-up performance to Lady Bird is one for the born romantics out there.
On Chesil Beach adapts Ian McEwan's 2007 novella, set in the '60s, which tracks an idyllic marriage between two young lovers, now threatened by societal pressures and a bubbling fear of intimacy between the pair. Ronan here stars across from Billy Howle, best known for his appearance on the E4 series Glue.
Shot on location at Chesil Beach in Dorset, the film marks Dominic Cooke's feature film debut, a four-time Olivier Award-winning theatre director who was also behind the second season of The Hollow Crown, starring Benedict Cumberbatch.
Ronan's breakout role was in Joe Wright's Atonement, which adapted another of McEwan's notable works, for which she became one of the youngest-ever Oscar nominees.
The film had its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival last year, though it's gearing up now for a UK release. You can check out the new illustrated poster below, created by Devon artist Becky Bettesworth.

On Chesil Beach hits London West End cinemas 18 May and nationwide 25 May.
