Joker has strong competition in the form of The Irishman , 1917 and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood , which were handed 10 nominations each.
Jojo Rabbit , Little Women , Marriage Story and Parasite – the first South Korean film to be nominated for Best Picture – managed six each.

Key snubs included Jennifer Lopez for her role in Hustlers , Awkwafina for The Farewell and Little Women filmmaker Greta Gerwig.
Robert De Niro, Taron Egerton and Adam Sandler also failed to secure nominations for their roles in The Irishman , Rocketman and Uncut Gems , respectively.
The Academy has received criticism for failing to nominate any women in the best director category.
