
The nominations for the 86th Academy Awards have been announced. One of the films vying for the Best Picture award is 12 Years a Slave, which won Best Drama at last week's Golden Globes.
The film recounts the story of a freeman Solomon Northup who was kidnapped and sold into slavery.
Lead star Chiwetel Ejiofor has been nominated in the Best Actor category, while Michael Fassbender and Lupita Nyong'o have been nominated in the Supporting Actor and Actress categories respectively. Steve McQueen has been nominated in the Best Director category.

Along with 12 Years a Slave, British film Philomena has received three nominations in the Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Actress and Best Pictures categories.
Other films in the running for the award are American Hustle, Gravity, Captain Phillips, Nebraska, Her, The Wolf of Wall Street and Dallas Buyers' Club.
