While the Oscars are a celebration of film, this year’s ceremony looks set to be particularly politically charged, various filmmakers standing for the #MeToo and Time’s Up movements.

Some attendees will also be wearing orange pins on the red carpet. According to People, many will be donning ‘Wear Orange to Prevent Gun Violence’ pins from the advocacy group Everytown for Gun Safety in an effort to raise awareness of gun safety.

The move comes just two weeks after a school shooting in Parkland that saw 17 students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School killed by a former student.

Following the shooing on the 14 February, various celebrities donated to the “March for Our Lives” campaign calling for gun control. George and Amal Clooney put forward $500,000 in the name of their twins, a number matched by Oprah Winfrey.

Some celebrities also wore orange on National Gun Violence Awareness Day last year, including Lin-Manuel Miranda, Lena Dunham, and Amy Schumer, who also spoke out against gun violence on social media.

This awards season has already seen various celebrities stage protests, attendees at the Golden Globes wearing all-black in support of Time’s Up.

Meanwhile, this year’s Oscars will take place tonight. Read how to watch here, the full nominations here, and our predictions here. You can also find out who’s performing here.
