Oscars 2019: Chris Evans helps Regina King up the stairs

Chris Evans has won the respect of the Internet for helping Best Supporting Actress winner Regina King up the Oscars slippery steps.

“Captain America making sure Regina King had a flawless walk on stage to accept her Oscar,” wrote one Twitter user.

“Love seeing Captain America out there doing his thing,” wrote another.

Halloween actor Jamie Lee Curtis praised Evans: “Hey Chris Evans you are a gentleman! And you look handsome AND well groomed! I just played his mother in a movie so I feel I can say that!”

Evans, who appeared with the actor in the film Knives Out, replied: “That means a lot coming from my on-screen mom :)”

King won the award for her role in If Beale Street Could Talk, beating Amy Adams (Vice), Marina de Tavira (Roma), Emma Stone (The Favourite) and Rachel Weisz (The Favourite).

King described her win as “a little surreal”. “James Baldwin birthed this baby” she said, before adding through tears: “I’m an example of what it looks like when support and love is poured into someone.”

The 2019 Oscars saw Rami Malek take home Best Actor for his portrayal of Freddie Mercury in Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody. Other winners included Olivia Colman for The Favourite and Alfonso Cuarón took home Best Director for his Netflix drama Roma. Green Book won Best Picture, proving a controversial choice over Roma.
