The first trailer for Paul Thomas Anderson’s upcoming Daniel Day-Lewis starring film, Phantom Thread, has landed.

Set in post-World War II London, the film centres on Reynolds Woodcock (Day-Lewis), a renowned dressmaker enjoying bachelor life. Soon enough, Reynolds meets Alma, who becomes a lover.

Vicky Krieps plays Alma, while Lesley Manville stars as Woodcock’s sister, and Richard Graham has an unspecified role.

Since finishing Phantom Thread, Lewis has announced his retirement from acting, a representative for the actor saying: "Daniel Day-Lewis will no longer be working as an actor. He is immensely grateful to all of his collaborators and audiences over the many years. This is a private decision and neither he nor his representatives will make any further comment on this subject."

Anderson and Lewis famously worked together on There Will Be Blood, winning the actor an Oscar for the performance.

Since then, Anderson has directed two feature-length films, The Master and Inherent Vice, both of which star Joaquin Phoenix. The director also helmed the music video for Radiohead’s Daydreaming, guitarist Jonny Greenwood composing the soundtrack for Phantom Thread.
