Skins actress Kaya Scodelario will be swapping Bristol for the Caribbean.

The 22-year-old is set to star in the fifth instalment of Pirates of the Caribbean, the film’s producer Jerry Bruckheimer has confirmed.

“Pleased to announce that we cast Kaya Scodelario for the 5th Pirates of the Caribbean. Talented young actor from Skins & The Maze Runner,” he wrote.

The actress has been rumoured to take on the role for a number of months. She will star opposite the franchise’s main star Johnny Depp, who returns to play Captain Jack Sparrow.

Orlando Bloom and Javier Bardem are also rumoured to star in the sequel, but their roles have yet to be confirmed.

Scodelario has previously appeared in films including The Maze Runner and Spike Island.

She is best known for playing Effy Stonem in the Channel 4 series Skins, which has gone on to launch the careers of a number of young British actors including Nicholas Hoult and Jack O’Connell.

O’Connell most recently starred in Angelina Jolie’s prisoner of war biopic Unbroken as former Olympic runner Louis Zamperini.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is due to be released on 7 July 2017.
